Pingtan’s opera gets re-birth to apply for intangible cultural heritage
Pingtan Net | Updated:2018-07-30 | Lin KongboOn the morning of July 28, the time-honored Ciming Opera once again performed its melody in a clan temple of Cangxialong Village, Aodong Town, Pingtan International Tourism Island, Southeast China’s Fujian Province.
Under a red curtain which says “Cangxialong Ciming Opera”, a troupe of artists at an average age of over 50 from local Clan Lin sung the traditional opera in collaboration with puppets, suona horns, gongs of small and big, announced the rebirth of Pingtan Ciming Opera in front of the camera lens. Nowadays, in order to preserve and make research on Ciming Opera, Lin Wenyuan, the ninth generation successor of the opera, returns to teach the endangered opera.
Speaking of Ciming Opera, many young people in Pingtan are confused. As a matter of fact, the opera is a local drama popular in Changle, Fuqing and Pingtan of Fujian Province. It was on the verge of disappearance for a time due to failing to be handed down.
Next, Pingtan’s Social Affairs Bureau will step up the protection and excavation of the Ciming Opera, and intend to claim for Fujian provincial intangible cultural heritage.
