Over 20 teachers and students from the Faculty of Archaeology of Xiamen University took the initiative to settle in the International Austronesian Archaeological Research Base, part of the Keqiutou Archaeological Park on September 26 in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone (PCPZ), Chinese mainland’s closest neighbor of Taiwan.

Xiamen University unveiled in May this year an internship base for its faculty of archaeology at the research base located at Shangpan Village in PCPZ. As one of the earliest key comprehensive universities in China to establish the Faculty of Archaeology, Xiamen University will actively promote the archaeological progress in PCPZ with its teaching and research strength.

Next, Keqiutou Archaeological Park also plans to invite Peking University and Fujian Normal University to establish their respective internship bases here. The park aims to become the first cultural tourism complex integrating research, learning and tourism in Southeast China’s Fujian Province.

Keqiutou Archaeological Park is one of the key projects striving to serve as a cultural icon for Pingtan International Tourism Island and a platform for Pingtan to join countries along the “ Belt and Road Initiative”.
