Matui village in Pingtan

Pingtan has a village called ‘Matui’or literally translated as "Horse Leg". So how did this funny name come about?

    (Photo/Pingtan lan) Once, there was a foolish and cruel ruler who treated his people poorly. A mute boy felt sorry for his people and planned to overthrow the emperor to free his people from their sufferings. And so, he cut some magical papers into soldiers, horses, swords and raised a war against the emperor. At the battlefield, the boy was defeated and retreated with his troops. On the way, one of the horses was separated and came to a clearing where it turned into a village.
