Wild 'Eldorado' swaying in the wind in rural Pingtan (Photo/Xue Wansheng) Have you ever heard of "The Old Man and the Sea" by American novelist Hemingway? The story tells of an epic struggle of an old fisherman and the greatest catch in his life. Set in the 1940's in a coastal village in Cuba, the setting strongly reminds us of the harsh way of life and the works of nature. But past the heavy theme in the novel, if Hemingway was to write more on the scenery of the coastal village, I think it would have sounded something like Pingtan- clear morning sky, serene countryside and blazing sunsets. Xue Wansheng, a 26 year old homegrown photographer, loves everything about this coastal town. His artworks cover mostly nature, landscape and portraits, but his favorite theme is still the sea. Here are some of his vivid works to help paint a clearer picture of the amazing coastal life in Pingtan.
