2nd Cross-Straits Guoxue Forum concludes in Pingtan
Pingtan Net | Updated:2019-05-24The 2nd Cross-Straits Guoxue Forum came to a close on May 24 in Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, the Chinese mainland’s closest neighbor of Taiwan. Guxoue refers to the study of traditional Chinese thought and culture.
Noted scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Straits, including Liang Tao from Renmin University of China, Jeu-Jenq Yuann from Taiwan University and Wang Song from Peking University, delivered speeches at the closing ceremony. The Cross-Straits Center of Guoxue along with its associates from the Mencius Research Institute and Taiwan University's Department of Philosophy also exchanged friendship gifts in hope of bringing the positive exchanges and relationship further.
Fu-Bing Chen, a professor from the Department of Philosophy of Fu Jen Catholic University, expressed his delight in the joint effort between Chinese mainland and Taiwan, describing it as a noble effort by two neighbors of the Taiwan Straits with a common interest to spread a shared culture. Pingtan, which is building a cross-Straits center for Guoxue, plays a leading role in the cause. Chen encourages more youths across the Taiwan Straits to join and learn the Chinese culture, so as to bring new vigor to the traditional culture.

" The Cross-Straits Guoxue Forum is a long running plan and it will get better and better in terms of organization and content. Prominent figures in the field of the traditional Chinese culture will be invited here on a regular basis to give talks at the Cross-Straits Center of Guoxue and in local schools. We will also create a Guoxue study base for youths across the Taiwan Straits", said Chen Youchi, head of the Cross-Straits Center of Guoxue.
It is reported the 2nd forum was broadcast live through media platforms, attracting more than 5 million viewers online as of 8 pm, May 24.
