On July 31, the 12th Cross-Straits Guoxue Lecture opened on Pingtan International Tourism Island. Professor Zhu Xiaojian from Beijing Normal University led a group of 34 young overseas Chinese students who were participating in a root-seeking tour camp in Pingtan, and netizens across the Straits in an enlightening evening of Chinese characters studies.

The lecture was watched live by 2.04 million audiences on various platforms like Ptnet's official Weibo account, Sina, Tencent and etc.

In his lecture entitled "Chinese Characters & Chinese Culture", Professor Zhu further elaborated on his opinions of Guoxue. He said that through visual conceptualization, Han Chinese came up with a semantic tool, the Chinese character, which is adapted into writings for recording purposes and idea exchanges. The Chinese characters are the only revolutionized ancient hieroglyph with most of its original form being retained till today.
