Austronesian archaeology seminar to take place in Pingtan
Pingtan Net | Updated:2019-10-25Pingtan is scheduled to host a seminar on Austronesian archaeology research from Oct 27 till Oct 30.
40 experts in the fields of archaeology and museology across China are expected to join in the event. Before the seminar, they will visit archaeological sites on Pingtan Island to get a close-up of its history and culture.
This year’s seminar focuses on two topics. The first one is about prehistoric maritime archaeology research, which includes the study of archeological culture along China’s southeastern coast, the origin and spread of Austronesian, and underwater archaeology. The second one is about protection and efficient utilization of Pingtan’s cultural heritage, the development of archeological bases and construction of heritage parks.
An official from the Tourism, Culture and Sports Bureau of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone said that the event is expected to accelerate the conservation and maximize the utilization of Pingtan’s cultural heritage by raising the profile of its historical sites nationwide and abroad.
Other activities on the sidelines of the seminar include inauguration ceremonies of the Cross-Straits Austronesian Practice Base, Keqiutou Provincial-level Archaeological Park and also the Southeast Environmental Archeology Center for Fujian Normal University.
The seminar is jointly hosted by the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Administrative Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone as well as Fujian Museum and carried out by Pingtan International Austronesian Research Institute.
