Pingtan proceeds despite 44th WHC session postponed

Affected by the coronavirus pandemic, the 44th session of World Heritage Committee (hereinafter referred to as WHC)originally set from June 29 to July 9, 2020 has been postponed until further notice.

Fuzhou, the capital city of southeast China’s Fujian province was announced as the host city for the 44th session in July 2019. Pingtan, also a city of Fujian, has been selected as one of legs for the attending delegates and experts from the WHC to visit, in which the itinerary focuses on the Austronesian archaeology.

Xu Guirong, deputy director of the International Research Institute of Austronesian Archaeology based in Pingtan, said that during the postponement, the Institute will continue to fine-tune itinerary and improve facilities.

Fuzhou will become the second Chinese city to host this international event after Suzhou, Jiangsu province.
