Pingtan’s mega bridge from above

en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2020-07-17

Pingtan Strait Railroad Bridge is the first sea-crossing dual-use bridge in China, and the longest of its kind globally.

Spanning 16.34 kilometers, the second overland passage to Pingtan Island bridges four islets before landing on the island.

The bridge has two layers, with the upper level carrying a six-lane highway for vehicles traveling 100 kilometers per hour and the lower bearing a double-track railway designed to support high-speed trains running as fast as 200 kilometers per hour.

The bridge was completely connected in September 2019 and is expected to be fully operational by 2020.
