Guoxue session on 'Shi Ji' to be held in Pingtan
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2020-09-18Cross-Straits Center of Guoxue based in Pingtan, Chinese mainland’s closest neighbor of Taiwan, is to kick off its 24th Guoxue lecture on Sept 18 in Pingtan.
Themed “Shi Ji: Poetic perfection, like Li Sao (Encountering the Sorrow, by Qu Yuan) without rhymes” which is quoted from Lu Xun, a leading figure of modern Chinese literature, the lecture will be given by Chen Qingyuan, a professor of the faculty of arts of Fujian Normal University.
Shi Ji (or Records of the Grand Historian), the first biographical general history of China, was compiled by Sima Qian (circa 145‒86 BC), the Western Han historian, who devoted his entire life to this endeavor. The work records the events beginning with the legendary Yellow Emperor and ending with the first year (122 BC) of the Yuanshou reign of Han Wudi, covering around 3,000 years. Shi Ji set the model for the 24 subsequent dynastic histories of China.
The event will be sponsored by the Media Center of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, co-sponsored by the Pingtan Middle School Affiliated to Fujian Normal University, and organized by the Cross-Straits Center of Guoxue.
