Two Guoxue lectures were held on Nov. 21 and 22 at Aofeng Academy in Fuzhou, capital of East China’s Fujian province. The sessions went live online, attracting over 6.4 million viewers.

Fu Xiaofan, a professor of the Department of Philosophy at the School of Humanities, Xiamen University and also a speaker of the CCTV’s program Lecture Room, and Ma Zhaonan, executive vice president of the Fujian Yanhuang Culture Research Association gave speeches, respectively themed the “Cultural Inheritance of Coastal Cities in Fujian and Cities IP, and Zhu Zi’s Philosophy: Rebuilding the Source in the Spiritual World.

Fu Xiaofan explored the historical changes and modern value of the traditional culture along coastal cities in Fujian in the context of the contemporary cultural background. He believed that Fujian civilization bears the hallmarks of maritime civilization in the West, which made people in coastal cities more open-minded and exerted an important influence on economic progress and cultural prosperity, and the cultural heritage should be carried forward.

Ma Zhaonan believes that Zhu Xi, a Confucius scholar, has made outstanding contributions to the reconstruction of the spiritual world. He said: "Zhu Xi has inherited Confucianism, epitomized the great achievements of Neo-Confucianists of the two Song Dynasties, to which major transformations and improvements were made. He was an encyclopedic thinker and scholar.His philosophical approach which emphasizes innovation and rationalism will have an enlightening effect on the new era by reconstructing the philosophical system.

Guoxue lectures are being held on a regular basis by the Cross-Straits Center of Guoxue based in Pingtan. People from across the Taiwan Straits shared the ancestral origin and culture, and the center invites famous Guoxue scholars from both sides of the Taiwan Straits to give various lectures, as part of efforts to disseminate the charm of the fine traditional Chinese culture.

Fuzhou is the first stop of the Fujian tour for the Guoxue lecture.
