The Central Government of China has allocated 300 million yuan to help renovate a 9-kilometer-coastal zone in northern Pingtan, an island city off East China's Fujian province. According to Pingtan's Resources and Ecology Bureau, the restoration work is slated to start in August.

The move aims to enhance coastal environment and drive regional economic development. Since 2014, 70% of the damaged shoreline in the eastern part of Haitan Island, the main island of Pingtan has been restored, and the total investment has topped 6 billion yuan.
