Pingtan sees record tourists over May Day holiday

Pingtan, a rising international tourism island in China received 583,380 tourists with tourism revenue topping 490 million yuan during the five-day May Day holiday, a year-on-year growth of 43.73% and 25.53% respectively. More than 160, 000 tourists were recorded on a single day, the highest number in recent years.

Pingtan’s gorgeous seascape won the heart of sightseers. Mr. Guo, a photographer from central China’s Hunan province is one of the admirers. “Trunk Bay of Pingtan is really impressive at high tide. I also recommend the stone forest near Mount General. As a photographer, a trip to Pingtan is well worth your time,” endorsed Guo.

“Pingtan Island is a much-to-be-longed-for place, and our trip is worthwhile.” Ms. Lu, a tourist from Hainan said that Pingtan gave her tranquility and a feeling of unsullied quality, which is exactly what she pursues on vacation.

Sunshine, the golden beach, and colorful parasols...Longwangtou Bathing Beach was crowded with tourists, and cheers and laughter came one after another. Tourists enjoyed themselves by riding motorboats and yachts. “All water sports are available here except diving,” said a person in charge of Longwangtou Ocean Park.

Meanwhile, countryside and homestay experience tours have become popular with tourists. Among them, rural tourist spots with a distinctive character such as Beigang, Dongxiang Islet, Tanshui, and the adjacent villages of the Northern Ecological Corridor have attracted nearly 120,000 tourists.

Dreamlike "sea sparkle" in Pingtan

The “sea sparkles” or colloquially known as “blue tears” in Chinese which has been trending on popular social media, has enticed a sea of “tear chasers” in Pingtan.

A sumptuous "cultural feast" such as Quyi and folk performances at Haitan Ancient Town, a large tourism complex in Pingtan has boosted the popularity of the tourism market. "The holiday coincides with the 6th anniversary of the Haitan Ancient Town. We launched a series of special offers including package tickets for scenic spots and theme performances to attract more visitors," said Cai Qun, assistant general manager of Fujian Zhonghui Cultural Tourism Development Co.

"Obviously, the tourism products in Pingtan are more diverse this year, and we can have more fun and stay longer. Previously, it took only one day to tour around Pingtan. Now we have to spend two or three days,” noted Jiang Jiashuo, a frequent visitor from neighboring Fuzhou.
