Pingtan attends 23rd Cross-Straits Fair for Economy and Trade

The fourth 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road Expo and the 23rd Cross-Straits Fair for Economy and Trade kicked off on May 18 in Fuzhou, the capital city of E China’s Fujian province.

Pingtan, the closest place on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan set up an pavilion and promote policies regarding industries, economy and trade, and collaboration with Taiwan to attract more investors.

Pingtan Pavilion receives a flow of visitors. Lin Ziying, a merchant from Fuzhou, holds a Pingtan's policy brochure in one hand, and uses his mobile phone to scan the QR code in the other to check detailed articles. "Pingtan is an international tourist island with abundant tourism resources. The “Sea Sparkle” of Pingtan is known far and wide. There are great potentials for homestay business in Pingtan. It is something I would love to give a try ," Lin said.

Quite a few merchants have also shown interest in Pingtan's foreign trade routes. “How about Pingtan's foreign trade? I have an investment plan for ship routes and would like to know the investment policy in this field," consulted Liu Weijia, deputy general manager of the Yuhuan branch of Xiamen Fujian-Taiwan Ferry Co.

Liu Weijia learned of Pingtan’s yearly cross-Straits trade expansion and efficient customs clearance. So he comes in person to learn in detail in a bid to move ahead.

The Fair will last until the 22nd. With 14 exhibition areas and a total of 3,800 booths, including notable ones showcasing imported commodities along the Maritime Silk Road and successful entrepreneurship by youth from Taiwan, the fair stands at a whopping 100,000 square meters. Admission is free. Visitors are required to present their ID upon entering the venue and follow anti-Covid-19 precautionary measures.
