Pingtan, an island city off E China’s Fujian province organized a professional medical team to provide Covid-19 vaccination services for approximately 3,000 residents on June 6 at Yutou Township, part of its efforts to facilitate vaccination for isolated islanders and accelerate herd immunity.
“Yutou is an outlying islet under the jurisdiction of Pingtan. It is inconvenient to have the residents administered on the main island of Pingtan. The move is heart-warming,” said Chen Xiangneng, a villager in Donggui Village, Yutou Township.

"Previously, we invited experts to do a full field investigation, renovated the township government building into a vaccination site in accordance with the requirements of epidemic prevention and control,” said Ren Xiaoqiang, an official from the Suping District Administration of Pingtan. Local officials went door by door to find out the potential inoculators. The vaccinations were staggered to practice social distancing, and a safety contingency plan was also in place.
