A delegation from the National Cultural Heritage Administration, led by Hu Bing, deputy director of the administration paid a visit to the International Research Center for Austronesian Archaeology for a field investigation in Pingtan, the nearest place on the Chinese mainland to Taiwan.

The delegation inspected the construction of the center and the preparations for Pingtan’s inspection sites of the upcoming 44th session of the World Heritage Committee.

The delegation affirmed Pingtan’s archaeological achievements and placed great expectations on Pingtan’s future archaeological development. Hu Bing pointed out that more academic professionals should be assigned for the construction of Pingtan Archaeological Site Park and Haitan Strait Underwater Archaeological Site Park, and financial support should be provided for cultural relics protection and restoration. Pingtan should continue to do a solid job in the research on Austronesian origins and spread, and strengthen China’s international influence in the study of Austronesian languages and marine culture. It is necessary to use academic support to tell the stories of the Austronesian family and promote the new development featuring culture and tourism integration.

Wu Liyuan, deputy director of the Administrative Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, attended the investigation.
