Sea-eroded rocks entice tourists in the 68-Nautical-Mile Scenic Area of Pingtan.

Pingtan, a rising international tourism island in China received approximately 158,400 visitors during the 3-day Dragon Boat Festival holiday(June 12-14 Beijing Time), a year-on-year increase of 76.63%, and achieved incomes of 114.84 million yuan, up 34.52% compared with the same period last year, according to sources from the Tourism, Culture and Sports Bureau of Pingtan.

Self-drive tourists are still the main driver during the peak period. They mostly came from inside Fujian and other neighboring provinces.

Summer is the best time to enjoy the beach and waves. Tourists flocked in during the Dragon Boat Festival for Pingtan's natural ecology and immaculate coastal scenery. The marine sports off the scenic Tannan Bay was an instant hit with the young and adventurous. Meanwhile, Beigang Cultural Creative Village and the 68-Nautical-Mile Scenic Area were the top choices of family travelers.

With the conclusion of Gaokao, or college entrance exam, high school graduates joined in the tour legion. The Dragon Boat Festival holiday is also the "rush hour" for homecoming to visit relatives. Family trips have soared. Some homestay hostels in the rural villages such as Beigang and Tanshui of Pingtan have been sought-after.

“A great many graduates after Gaokao chose our hostel to relax. There are spacious zones in our hostel that are ideal for entertainments,” noted a hostel owner from Tanshui Village.

Cultural performances have also boosted the popularity of the tourism market. Haitan Ancient Town, a large tourism complex in Pingtan entertained visitors with quyi, folklore shows and open window theaters.

During Duanwu, more local attractions had come up with interesting activities like wrapping zongzi (a traditional Chinese rice pudding) and light shows, bringing the festive cheer to Pingtan Island.
