Pingtan joins hands with biggest wholesale food market in Asia
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2021-06-17On June 16, Chen Shanguang, secretary of the Party Working Committee of Pingtan Comprehensive Pilot Zone, the closest place on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan, met with a delegation of Beijing Xinfadi Agricultural Products Co led by its general manager Zhang Yuelin. The delegates were here for further market survey and talks after both parties had inked a cooperative agreement in mid-May.
Since October last year, Beijing Xinfadi has learned in detail about the farm produce wholesale markets and the logistics and transportation on over 10 trips to Pingtan. "Pingtan's superior location advantage and fast customs clearance are conducive to the imports and exports of premium agricultural products. In addition, with professional and caring services provided by the local authorities, we are more determined to land in Pingtan," said Zhang Rong, the person responsible for the project.
"Beijing Xinfadi is a leader in the wholesale farm produce industry in China and even in Asia. We hope that the company will give full play to its resources so as to bear fruit as soon as possible.” Chen welcomed the arrival of "old friends" and placed high hopes for cooperation between the two parties.
“Pingtan boasts a bright prospect in building a farm produce trading hub across the Taiwan Straits.” During the meeting, Zhang Yuelin expressed that the company will ramp up its efforts to bring in high-quality agricultural products from Taiwan and abroad and distribute them on the mainland.
According to the agreement, at 1.059 billion yuan, a 15.3-hectare cross-Straits trading hub for farm produce will be constructed in Pingtan, realizing a "fast lane" for the import of wholesale farm produce from Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
In recent years, Pingtan has successively opened direct marine routes to northern, central and southern Taiwan, broadening the freight channels for Taiwan’s agricultural and fishery products to enter the mainland. In 2020, Pingtan topped Fujian Province in the value of imports of agricultural and fishery products from Taiwan.
