A “slow flying angel” music gala dinner for kids with special needs simultaneously took place in Pingtan, an island city off E China's Fujian and Taichung, Taiwan on June 26.

Chen Xizhen, the founder of Pingtan Rehabilitation Center for Special Children and the dinner organizer, is the president of Asperger's and Kenneth's Syndrome Association in Taichung. Chen is also a training instructor at the Shenzhen Xinhai Rehabilitation Center for Special Children.

She was voted one of Taichung’s Top 10 Model Moms. Chen’s daughter Liu Mengyuan was unable to speak at the age of 4. She suffered from severe autism. With her careful nurturing, the mother and daughter have gone through hardships beyond imagination and created a miracle.

Now Liu Mengyuan is a celebrated young pianist in Taiwan.

Big rounds of applause resounded through the hall. Performances such as electronic organ, guzheng, and dancing were put on one after the other. Chen Xizhen said that the activity is to promote music culture, deepen cross-Straits cultural and artistic exchanges. By the same token, it allows the slow flying angels to appreciate a shower of warm supports from both sides of the Straits and enhance their recognition and social skills.
