China’s first youth music film Sound of Monsoon and Ocean shot in Pingtan[Courtesy of interviewee]

Recently, China’s first genre on music and youth Sound of Monsoon and Ocean has been shot in Pingtan, a rising international tourist destination in China. The film, dotted with choric songs tells the story of two generations pursuing their dreams.

"Pingtan, as a shooting location, is superb. Its gorgeous natural scenery such as beaches and the sea and the humanistic ethos unparalleled in China provide good conditions.” Film director Gao Zhidan noted that the well-developed facilities and considerate services of Pingtan bring much convenience to film creation, production and development.

Sound of Monsoon and Ocean centers on a music teacher suffering from Alzheimer’s disease on Pingtan Island, leading the island’s middle school students to start a choir, using music to reinforce her memories, and using chorus to express their struggling youth. 

About 50% of the scenes such as sea caves, coastal roads, and schools on the island have been filmed in Pingtan, and it is expected to be released next summer.
