“Doc, I’ve been suffering from insomnia for more than three months. Currently, I’ve been relying on melatonin. Is there any other way to go about this?”

Shi Xiaoxiao from Taiwan took an iPad and used a remote connection to make an appointment with Li Huanzhong, a TCM physician from Taiwan, to receive “cloud medical treatment”. The app used by Shi is “Taiyitong·Kung Fu Traditional Chinese Medicine”, which was launched on November 20.

The app is a medical service platform dedicated to compatriots from Taiwan. Co-developed by Straits Innovation Internet Hospital (Pingtan) Co., Ltd. and Zhongkai Yijiantong (Shenzhen) Health Technology Co., Ltd. it is the first of its kind in Pingtan. Pingtan is Chinese mainland’s closest neighbor of Taiwan and also the designated pilot zone for cross-Straits integration.

Taiyitong is currently in close collaboration with Fujian’s top hospitals to provide remote consultations, online appointments, offline treatments, medicine mailings, health insurance write-offs, medical insurance, and health file management for Taiwan compatriots on the mainland.

Li Huanzhong is working for a TCM clinic in Xiamen. Most of his Taiwanese patients come from different cities on the mainland and many are used to Taiwanese medicines. The app effectively meet their needs on the mainland.

Liu Renxing, a Taiwanese compatriot in Pingtan, echoed that every time he returned to Taiwan, he would bring some common medicines to Pingtan, such as medications for flu, skin diseases, and hyperglycemia. Affected by the Covid, travel is restricted. He has to ask others for help.

“My families or friends in Taiwan are now delivering the medicines for me. Once the drug purchase function of the app is up and running, I will no longer bother others. Look forward to it,” said Liu.

Qiu Lin’an, honorary president of Straits Innovation Internet Hospital, said that "Taiyitong·Kung Fu Traditional Chinese Medicine" aims to build the only Internet hospital offering Taiwanese medicine and treatment on the mainland.

With the deepening of cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation, more and more Taiwan compatriots come to the mainland for opportunities. Statistics show that there are so far more than 2 million Taiwan compatriots working, studying and living on the mainland.

This March, Chinese President Xi Jinping put forward on an inspection trip in Fujian, “Continuous efforts should be made to explore new ways for integration and development across the Taiwan Straits”.

In recent years, Pingtan has been actively working on experimenting with ways to facilitate Taiwanese compatriots and businesses on the mainland.
