Since late October, Pingtan, the fifth largest island in China, has recorded electrical generation of over 319 MW at maximum output from its wind turbines, 2-3 times the peak power load in the region. Electric power plays a dominant role in China’s ambition to cap carbon emission by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.

In August 2021, the construction of a 220kV offshore wind power project was completed at Changjiang'ao. Once put into operation, clean energy on the island can reach 643.8 MV, about 2.2 times the maximum load in summer, and the annual power generation capacity can reach 2.05 billion kWh.

Pingtan boasts abundant wind resources. It aims to achieve zero-carbon emission through clean and renewable electricity. Pingtan is also the closest place on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan. It’s also the only area in the country where three sets of favorable policies from “International Tourism Island, Free Trade Zone, and Comprehensive Pilot Zone” are superimposed.
