Zhang Xiexiong is working at the Chinese National Academy of Arts. In his recent visit to his hometown in Fujian, Zhang followed the zephyr trail to Pingtan in search of inspiration.

In the painting, the Celestial Well stands on a rugged cliff overlooking the sea. Streaks of red, yellow, blue and other blocks of pastel shades outline the rocky wall in the sun, giving the painting an immersive visual aesthetic.

"Gazing at Mount General from a Distance" is Zhang’s most satisfying and moving piece of the nine. Looking closely at this painting, the beach, blue sea, reefs and green trees constitute the main part of the picture. In the distance, far away on the horizon, the monument on Mount General stands tall, bestowing an infinite sense of reverie.

The painting "Infinite Sea and Sky" gives a feeling of enthusiasm and vitality. In the painting, waves crash into the reefs, sending up plumes of sea sprays. Wavy and thick, the layers of textured waves conjure a surge of emotions.

The fascinating sea-eroded landforms and distinctive culture stunned Zhang, who also called on more artists to come and create. Zhang’s final piece "A Land of Peace"
