Pingtan Strait Rail-Road Bridge, the first in China and world’s longest of its kind, opened to traffic last December. Taking a train has become the most preferred mode of transports to Pingtan. Pingtan Island is the closest place on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan. The bridge serves as a vital "bolt" for the planned Beijing-Taiwan channel.
