Models rock the stage in opulent Chinese Hanfu

Counting down the days till Chinese New Year, Pingtan Island, the closest place on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan, has an array of exciting activities lined up. Themed "China Chic," flamboyant lampbrellas, glamorous Hanfu (traditional Chinese apparel), exquisite arts and crafts graced the island, exuding an atmosphere of exuberance and festivity at the 2022 Cross-Straits New Year's Gala.

Hanfu is the traditional costume of the Han ethnic group, and the clothing is considered a bright pearl in the history of human civilization. The Hanfu at this event features Ming Dynasty(1368-1644)style and Tang-style suits, retro and aesthetic.

Huang Jingli, an enthusiast of traditional Chinese culture and vice president of Pingtan Hanfu Association, said: "The longer you dwell among traditional Hanfu, you will come to realize that it is more than just a pretty robe. It is a passion and a form of inheritance to the Chinese heritage." She also added that the activity greatly enhanced cross-Straits exchanges.

In addition, classic recitation, guzheng (a Chinese plucked zither) and tea ceremony performance, and coming-of-age ceremony show took turns to “wow” the audience.

After watching the programs, Xue Qingde, a compatriot from Taiwan, said: "These excellent traditional cultures need to be inherited and carried forward from generation to generation. Pingtan is an international tourism island and an island connecting the two sides of the Straits. Compatriots from across the Straits need to work together to that end.”

Pingtan’s traditional intangible cultural heritage such as Ciming Opera, Shell Carving, Sand Painting, etc. will meet citizens and tourists at local tourism complexes such as Aoqian Taiwan-themed Town and Haitan Ancient Town during the Spring Festival holiday. Mark your calendar!
