Cast your fishing rod in a bubbling brook at dawn, snap a fiery sunset at dusk, and crash in a local home for the night... Leisure travel is on the rise in Dongmei Village, Junshan Town of Pingtan, the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan.

A cluster of B&Bs has sprung up. So far, 8 out of the 11 blocks of the B&Bs are ready. Splashed in a vibrant citrusy color that conveys a youthful and energetic vibe, the properties come with three swimming pools and a pub. The terrace restaurant with a view is the perfect spot for an evening cocktail, a romantic Sea Sparkle date, or a pastoral retreat.

Renovation work has taken down the rustic path of "retaining and restoring the old" while adding a hint of contemporary living to fit the taste of young travelers. The architecture is just as rustic and hip. A new tourist service center offering yacht rental for sightseeing and sea fishing will soon be open to give visitors a more immersive experience.

Gao Chuanlin, head of Jiayou Company who is in charge of renovation, introduced the company has cooperated with Taiwan compatriots to rent a deserted school and transform it into a homestay. So far, fixtures and furnishings are complete.

Gao Chuanlin said that renovation work this time round had made use of available resources from the old school building, which greatly improved the facilities of the Celestial Well Scenic Spot.

Moreover, the center also offers Taiwanese and local specialties to give visitors' a more comprehensive shopping and dining experience.

“We plan to purchase sightseeing vehicles to attract tourists to the village.”Wu Yunping,  the first secretary of Dongmei Village, said that Dongmei Village will further cooperate with homestays and recreational fisheries and utilize tourism and fishery resources to link up with Celestial Well Scenic Spot.
