en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2022-02-25 | Wang Xuyan StephanieThe 42nd Cross-Straits Guoxue Lecture opened on Feb 23 with elements of mystery and enlightenment, where Yang Zurong, an associate professor of Ancient Literature Studies from Fujian Normal University's School of Ancient Literatures and Research, presented a brisk lecture to decode the mysteries of Dunhuang.
In his lecture, Professor Yang made an introduction to the Dunhuang murals, the uncovered treasures of the Dunhuang Sutra Caves, and other leftover treasures of the grottoes. Delving deeper into the big picture, he unveiled each mystery shrouding the Dunhuang- starting with cultural stories, the discovery of the scripture caves, festivals and customs, Dunhuang solar terms, literature, and art.
More than 150 students attended the lecture to experience the rich beauty of the Dunhuang Culture. Chen Tianqi, a student from the Pingtan High School Affiliated to Fujian Normal University, said: “Professor Yang's lecture has got me hooked on Dunhuang culture. After today's lecture, I will definitely do more learning of my own about Dunhuang culture. I'm even considering getting a research job related to the field in the future."
This lecture was also broadcasted live on several social media platforms, attracting a buzz of Guoxue enthusiasts. Yang Zurong said that Guoxue should not be a study only for academicians. Everyone should be allowed to have better access to enjoy the beauty of Chinese culture. Only when Guoxue is widely-accepted can we pride ourselves more on our national identity and carry forward the legacy of the Chinese culture.
