Love is in the air! Couples swarmed to Pingtan's Marriage Registry on Tuesday (Beijing Time) , Feb 22. Number 2 is homophonic with the Chinese character "love." Hence, the date has become a lucky day to tie the knot for Chinese couples.

"From today on, we will jointly shoulder the responsibilities and obligations of marriage. We promise to fulfill the code of filial piety, educate our children, respect and love each other..." With a resounding marriage oath, a couple is officially married. According to authorities,76 couples made the oath at marriage registration office that day.

"Today is a rather special day. Because it falls on a Tuesday of February 22, 2022. Such coincidence is hard to come by," said Lin Hongcan, a bride-to-be.

Some newlyweds wore veils and even had photographers take down the precious moment. One of the brides-to-be, Chen Huiqing held on to her husband Lin Hongting's hands during the photo shoot, her face brimming with happiness. The lovely couple has much to look forward to in the future. "Getting together as two individuals is a learning curve. Though we seem to get along pretty well now, we still have a long way to go," Lin Hongting said.

Brochures on anti-domestic violence and marriage counseling were distributed to raise awareness of a healthy and happy marriage.

"We want the procedure to be simple." Chen Ze, a groom expressed his support for the economical wedding ceremony, as long as the affection is sincere.

According to Huang Yufeng, director of the Women and Children's Working Committee, there are too many examples of unrealistic bride gifts in our society. Not only is this social practice burdensome, but it also diminishes the true meaning of love. "With this activity, we hope to educate new couples to embrace moderation and advocate economical weddings that harmonize traditional customs and practicality," Huang said.
