Pingtan’s stone houses treasured

“Pingtan Island grows no grass but rocks, with rampant blowing sand. The stone houses are like strongholds…” An ancient ballad sings about this once lonely island of its past. Pingtan, the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan, has been designated as the second international tourism island in China.

Over the years, Pingtan has been developing tourism in full swing, turning stone houses into "gold mines".

According to the tourism construction plan, Pingtan’s Beigang is positioned as a cultural and creative village. Taiwan’s top-rated teams and experts have been invited to help preserve and revitalize the quaint resources.

Today, stone houses have become distinctive homestay hostels, attracting an endless flow of tourists. They are a cultural icon of Pingtan.

Aside from Beigang Village, several other villages quickly follow suit, transforming into popular attractions and popping up as the top trending searches on various social media platforms.

CGTN, a state broadcaster, focuses on stone houses of Pingtan.

Artists from all over the country flew into Pingtan to draw inspiration from the "stone castles". Their works of art became street murals strewn about the island.

The story of stone houses turning into gold mines has just begun. While the season is just right, we would like to welcome you on a "stone house tour".
