Has the "green fever" got to you yet? In recent years, Pingtan, the largest island in East China’s Fujian province and a rising international tourism island in China, has been ramping up its "greening" efforts.

In 2021, about 13,414 mu (or 2209 hectares) of barren land went through some major afforestation. With the addition of this "green ecological belt," the island's air quality has improved significantly. As of 2021, Pingtan has enjoyed a whopping 99.2% air quality index, topping Fujian for six consecutive years.

As of last year, four villages were honored as 2021 Fujian's Forest Villages, namely Shangpan Village, Lunan Village, Xiayu Village, and Qiaojintou village. Since the construction of the "Green Island Flower City" project in 2020, close to 85,000 trees were planted. Simultaneously, two state-level forest villages and six provincial-level forest villages have emerged.

Shangpan Village covers about 2,000 mu (or 330 hectares) of woodland and 2,200 cubic meters of forest, spruced up with 700 mu (or 112 hectares) of plains and 270 mu (or 43 hectares) of ecological parks, with close to 50% of "verdure coverage."

The village has received accolades on numerous occasions for its beauty. Today, it is a "Provincial Beautiful Village" and "Provincial 4A Tourist Village."

With more and more forests on the island, Pingtan has evolved into an ecological "green sanctuary." Where there is wood, there is forest. Where there is forest, there is home. Let's make our home a "greener place."
