Cranes were busy putting prefabricated steel together for the main structure of the ongoing project- Pingtan Ocean Scientific and Cultural Center on March 29. Pingtan is an island city off E China’s Fujian province.

According to Liu Shuisheng, the production manager, the Center integrates a library, an art gallery, a cultural center, a women's and children's activity center, and a conference center. 80% of the project is built out of solid steel, estimated at 8,200 tonnes. “The art and strength of the steel structure will be manifested after its completion,” said Liu.

"Next, we'll work on the 'curtain wall.' Once completed, you'll see a ritzy silvery glass encasement wrapping these steel structures. In the sun, the facade will be mind-blowing," introduced Liu.

The Pingtan Ocean Scientific and Cultural Center is a public culturalfacility. After the project is completed, it will be of great significance to raising awareness of the marine culture of Pingtan.
