Our home village: Heping Village

Heping Village is a seaside enclave hemmed in on three sides by the sea.Tucked in the northwest corner of Pingtan Island, the nearest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan, this ten-mile coastal drive is a vision of beauty and modesty.

Into the peaceful hamlet, neat rows of rustic limestone houses mingle with modern residences in newly-renovated courtyards.

Verdure vegetation peeks out of the open compound as relaxed villagers sit in groups of two or three to chit chat, and lazy pooches lay asleep under the warm sun.

At the crest of a hill, the mighty "God Mouse" stands at the summit with a realistic image. The God Mouse is a weathered rock that has stood against the test of time for millennia, a geological marvel created by the prevailing winds of Pingtan.

Ironically, just a stone's throw away, another mountain called "Cat Mountain" made up the folklore about this fateful friend and foe for centuries.

Legend has it that once upon a time, there was a butcher on the street of Su'ao. The butcher had a meat stall. Every evening, the laborious butcher would fry up all leftovers and store them in an urn. However, the more he added, the lesser it got. One night, the butcher woke up from his sleep by a loud noise. His house cat had found the thief of his meat- a big black rat! Both predator and pest raced over Jinshan Mountain, landing on the edge of a hill. The faithful cat gave a good chase when the rope on his neck got caught on a rock, causing the poor feline to roll into a mud pool at the feet of the mountain. In the blink of an eye, the duo turned into two mounds of rocks.

In the village, there is a section of plank walk partially covered with glass, from which you could see the rolling hills and verdant foliage underneath.

In front, a vast vision unfolds with the view of the boundless sea and wild blue yonder. Pristine shores extend from north to south, stretching up to more than 1,000 meters long. At the side of the road, bold color boulders stacked up into the sky, like some rock candies- visually-stunning like some Hollywood avant-garde.
