“The very day I set my eyes on the same skies, sand, waves, and rocks that reminded me so much of Taiwan. I couldn't bear to leave." Wu Zhengyan, who calls himself an "island youth" from Kaohsiung, Taiwan province, was elected president of the Pingtan Taiwan Compatriots Investment Enterprises Association (PTAAC) in July 2019, making him the youngest chairman of the PTAAC in the Mainland China.

In 2009, Wu Zhengyan came to the mainland to start his own business. The following year, he met his wife Lin Dujuan. Wu went to a driving school in Fuzhou where he met his future mother-in-law. The woman loved the lad so much that she got her daughter and Wu to meet up. Although a short meeting, Wu and Lin fell in love at first sight. Shortly two years after, the couple tied the knot.

In 2012, Wu first set foot in Pingtan and was drawn by the rapid development of the island, which "looks like Kenting in Taiwan with its clear sea and blue sky." The following year, Wu invested and set up a new company in Pingtan, which was mainly engaged in road construction, wharf construction and wholesale of building materials and took this as an opportunity for the transformation and development of his career.

Wu said that due to the differences in lifestyles and environments, surely the couple was bound to some minor conflicts. But over the years, they have gradually learned to balance their differences. Wu Zhengyan said that the matrimony of a couple and two Straits-family is a process of seeking common ground and shelving differences with mutual tolerance. Most importantly, a test of wisdom for a wedded couple.

In 2019, Wu Zhengyan became the president of Pingtan's Taiwanese Business Association. In 2021, Wu shed light on the grueling situation of some Taiwan enterprises during the epidemic and eventually set up a credit flash-lending aid for Taiwan compatriots. Wu also started a relocation and investment fund for Taiwan compatriots in Pingtan.

Under Wu's call, Taiwan enterprises and merchants were also active in public charities and donations. Wu Zhengyan also spares no effort to promote the products of Taiwan enterprises and calls on more cooperation efforts.

Pingtan Taiwan Compatriots Investment Enterprises Association started with 69 members in 2013 and now has more than 400. Wu was very excited upon hearing the news about the 2035 Beijing-Taipei high-speed railway. "Should this grand vision be realized, Pingtan will surely become the hub of cross-Straits transportation. Looking forward to that day!" Wu Zhengyan said.
