On April 19, 31 projects, with a total investment of 9.229 billion yuan and an annual planned investment of 2.997 billion yuan, started construction for the second quarter of this year in Pingtan, the closest place on the Chinese mainland to the island of Taiwan.

Among them, the project Pingtan International Windsurfing Training Base totals an investment of 900 million yuan. The construction includes a national-level kitesurfing, sailing, and windsurfing training base.

Lin Dongming, deputy general manager of the Pingtan Cultural Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd., said that the baseis critical for the development of marine sports in Pingtan, contributing to building Pingtan into an international marine sports destination.

Pingtan's soaring ambition as an international tourism island has spurred several international kitesurfing competitions on the island since 2012. The superior wind and beach conditions have been recognized by the industry.
