Lin is the first citizen to use the digital renminbi to pay the electricity bill in Pingtan since Pingtan became the third batch of pilot areas for the digital service.
According to reports, "digital renminbi" is a legal currency guaranteed by the national credit and issued by the central bank- the People’s Bank of China.Digital cash is completely equivalent to banknotes and coins. Moreover, e-currency transactions do not require internet access. “Compared with the current popular payment services such as WeChat and Alipay, digital RMB is not limited by the amount of payment and the number of transactions. And there is no handling fee for cash withdrawal," said He Meimei, a staff worker from the Pingtan Branch of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.
