Pingtan International Karting Circuit is up and ready to "rumble" this summer! On May 20, the international karting circuit welcomed its first kart race. Pingtan is the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan and has been designated as the second international tourism island in China.

It was a bright sunny day. The cool karts were a rare sight for many. "Compared to a normal sedan, these exciting wheels are catered for speed. I might come here once a week for fun," said Mr. Jia after a thrilling ride.

Pingtan International Karting Circuit is the first project completed in the 2022 Pingtan International Racing Carnivalaimed atdriving tourism through sports events.

Pingtan is developing its automobile sports industry integrating auto culture, motorsports, technology R&D, product testing, and auto aftermarket. “We plan to build three tracks, i.e., a karting circuit, an urban off-road track, and an urban street circuit, for enriching the tourism landscape on the island,” said Lin Yuchuan, general manager of the Pingtan Cultural Tourism Development Group Co., Ltd.

Huang Wei, general manager of Pingtan Automobile Culture Development Co., Ltd., told reporters that karting, off-road racing, GT events, formula events, endurance events, and e-sports events, as well as auto shows and auto forums will be held every year in the future, so as to bring the gathering of high-net-worth individuals from the automobile and related industries and enhance the industrial upgrading of Pingtan.

“I hope that Pingtan will become an automobile culture center that radiates to China and even Southeast Asia,” Huang revealed that Pingtan will host the China GT Championship and FIA China Formula 4 Championship, two top events in Asia this September. Han Han, a professional rally racer in China will join in the championships on behalf of the McLaren team.
