The quaint restaurant has been transformed from a mottled and dilapidated stone house. It was decked with warm-toned lights, putting on a harmonious vibe.

On the left of the courtyard is a log pavilion. Lily-white floating yarns, a wooden table, and a cotton and linen tablecloth present a pastoral style.

There is a swing in the pavilion, where tourists can indulge in me-time, overlooking the sea and listening to lyrical songs with their earphones.

On the right of the courtyard is the outdoor dining area, which restores the dining ambiance of the ancients. The retro furnishings all reveal the antique charm.

A massive outdoor projector screen sits in the middle of the courtyard, making it perfect for a movie night under the stars or a karaoke showdown. Sit about the crackling bonfire and hold onto the flickering light of the kerosene lamp. It is a magical evening of palpable bond.

Lin noted that they did not make major changes to the entire stone house. Most of the renovation started with soft decoration to recreate the look of an ancient inn. Combined with contemporary entertainment facilities, it retains the traditional elegance and at the same time does not lose modernity.

“The old objects carry a human touch. The windows were made from the door panels from Grandpa's (the landlord) house. The vintage ceramics on the niches, the Mercedes-Benz sewing machine in the corner, and the old suitcases were all salvaged from Grandpa’s house. The retro cabinets and chairs were from villagers’ homes. It took about two months to complete the decoration,” said Lin.

For many, this is a place of inner peace and Zen. And as a restaurant, the foods here are also impressive.

The gourmet dishes feature Mount Wuyi cuisine, such as Tremella Pancake with Eggs, Smoked Goose, Mutton Soup, and Spicy and Crispy Chicken Feet. “Pingtan is a beautiful city. It’s pleasant to live and work here,” said chef Cai Mujin.

Many customers hailed, “It’s on the outskirt, but like a paradise. The calm sea, and the orderly docked fishing boats make people feel at ease. Truly a hidden treasure.”

Recently, a quaint rustic restaurant in Pingtan that looks like an ancient teahouse from a period drama has made waves on social media. "Xiaoyin  Xiaoyuan," meaning a courtyard life in seclusion, has drawn a crowd of visitors. Lin Zhengqian, manager of the place, said she did not see it coming when they uploaded a short video on Douyin (TikTok’s sister app in China) of Lin and her friends enjoying a couple of drinks around the campfire in the courtyard. The video became an overnight sensation, garnering over 5.6 million views and close to 200,000 likes.
