Wind, waves, and the winding coastlines of Pingtan Island swept the big screen at Times Square, New York, from June 23 to 27. Surrounded by neon billboards and skyscrapers, the message "Welcome to Pingtan, Fujian, China" blinks and beckons to passers-by.

Pingtan is an island off E China’s Fujian province as well as the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan. The island enjoys the advantage of superior geographical location and rich tourism resources. In 2016, it was officially named the second international tourism island in China. Pingtan’s development has since been on a fast track.

Times Square is a major commercial intersection, tourist destination, entertainment center, and neighborhood in Midtown Manhattan, New York. Brightly lit by numerous billboards and advertisements, it is sometimes referred to as "the Crossroads of the World."
