Zheng's Medicated Bath Therapy
Updated:2022-08-04The therapy is a district-level intangible cultural heritage. In the old days, Pingtan Island was geographically remote. People used to fish for a living. Most islanders developed a cold and internal dampness under prolonged exposure to the wind and sun. Snake bites, malaria, carbuncle, boils, and trauma were common on the island. Using local herbal medicine in Pingtan, Zheng's Medicated Bath Therapyis noted for its remarkable efficacy of the treatments.
Zheng's grandmother used the island’s herbs and Chinese medicine acupuncture massage techniques to treat illnesses. The successor, Zheng Huamin, futher studied and worked out a set of treatments, and built a bathing pool and a herbal garden where rare herbals are planted.
