Summer heralds a tourism crescendo in Pingtan, the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan as well as a rising international tourism island.

Longwangtou Bathing Beach of Pingtan packed with tourists

Beaches on the island were swarming with holidaymakers. Data shows that from August 1 to 11, Tannan Bay Scenic Area received over 400,000 tourists, with a max of 80,000 in a single day.

Zheng Meilan from Putian on a family tour chose to travel in a hippy RV. " Pingtan is blessed with natural ecology. The scenery looks way better than they look on social media. Plus, the island comes with comprehensive tourist amenities."

Ms. Ye from Zhejiang Province lay quietly on a beach chair.“It’s relaxing here. We have been lounging here all afternoon and don't want to leave."

With the hike in the number of tourists, travel agencies in Pingtan are keepingon the go.“Business booms on weekends and weekdays alike,” said Xue Bin, head of Fujian Haitan International Travel Agency Co., Ltd.

Reporters visited hotels and found that the occupancy rate of a hotel near Longwangtou Bathing Beach is as high as 95%. Wu Xiaofang, the assistant to the hotel’s general manager, told reporters that the most popular sea-view suites were fully booked."Apart from sightseeing, beach sports and recreations have spiced up the island vibes."

When you travel to the island, make sure you also sample the fresh local seafood. " We just arrived from the beach. This al-fresco stall has a nice ambiance. And the seafood is fresh, too," said Ms. Yang, a tourist from Jiangxi Province. According to Lin Shuangxian, head of the seafood restaurant, the restaurant extends the business hour to two or three in the morning to better cater to tourists.
