Pingtan, an island off E China’s Fujian province as well as a rising international tourism island, held its first-ever stand-up talk show staged by Do My Best Comedy from Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on August 20 at Pingtan International Performing Arts Center.

“Watching a talk show at my door step is a whole new experience! The live interaction between the comedians and the audience is engaging.” Wondrous chemistry was stirred through the peals of laughter in the auditorium at the crack of each joke. Feng Fa, an audience, expressed that he hopes to see a good mixture of performing arts being put on in the future to give the island a cultural melange.

The four comedians took turns showing up on the stage. They talked about and commented on the trending issues and rants about life, bringing down the house.

“We have to make the audience laugh every 20 to 30 seconds. And the content must be original and derived from our own experience.” A Di, one of the comedians, said the audience could strike a chord with such a down-to-earth show and have a great time together.

In recent years, talk show programs such as Roast! have become increasingly popular. “Judged from ticket sales, the talk show is favored among local audiences in Pingtan. We plan to invite Mahua FunAge, a Chinese comedy film and stage play production company, to Pingtan on September 28,” said Yao Nan from Pingtan International Performing Arts Center.
