Zhou Wen: Light chaser from Pingtan

en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2022-08-23 | Lin Kongbo, Stephanie

Zhou Wen, a native of Pingtan, an island off E China's Fujian province, is the first on the island to use a solar roof to generate electricity.

Once, employees from Pingtan branch of the State Grid came knocking on his door to inspect a reported unknown power supply from his house. When the staff saw the photovoltaic panels, they were amazed and suggested Zhou sell excess electricity to the State Grid. Since then, Zhou's name has spread all over the island.

Zhou began promoting photovoltaic energy in Pingtan. At first, the head of Dongzhan Village was doubtful that photovoltaic street lamps could last till dawn. Zhou simply brushed off the skepticism and said, "let's just give it a shot." Indeed, everything worked out perfectly. The village head immediately agreed to procure more.

Now, more villages are following suit.

Zhou's photovoltaic solution for renewable energy spread through word-of-mouth and received recognition from the chambers of commerce in and out of Fujian province. Since then, Zhou's photovoltaic panels grew in popularity and were adopted in numerous factories.

Zhou runs three companies in Pingtan, with turnovers exceeding 10-million-yuan mark.

After prolonged research and development, Zhou has obtained a number of invention patents for photovoltaic and new energy applications and published dissertations in national periodicals. In December 2021, Zhou was accredited as a senior electrical engineer issued by the Fujian Provincial Department of Human Resources and Social Security. His company's R&D team has also developed new energy application technologies and products with core technologies.
