Pingtan's foreign trade throughput hikes by 142.53%

According to the Economic Development Bureau of Pingtan, an island off E China’s Fujian province, from January to July this year, Pingtan's foreign trade throughput amounted to 452,500 tons, a year-on-year increase of 142.53%. Total containers handled came up to 62,000 TEUs, up 46.61% year-on-year, while inbound and outbound cargo ships reached 617 trips, surging 37.42%. Overall, trade performance reflects a positive outlook for the island's logistics sector.

A majority of the commodities exported from Huatong’s supervised warehouses are daily necessities, such as cups, tables and chairs, cosmetics, purchased by consumers in Taiwan on the mainland’s e-commerce platform. The goods can be delivered to consumers in Taiwan within three days.

“Based on the stable route operation between Pingtan and Taiwan, our company can handle 10,000 export parcels a day compared with the previous 5,000 to 6,000,” said a worker from Fujian Laize International Logistics Co., Ltd.

Gao Sinan, general manager of Fujian Laize International Logistics Co., Ltd., said that the company also plans to recruit more employees to expand its business.
