The Painting Journey: A spellbinding journey in Pingtan

The Painting Journey, a poetic dance that went viral at the 2022 Spring Festival Gala, took center stage from October 6 to 7 in Pingtan, the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan as well as a rising international tourism island.

Based on A Panorama of Mountains and Rivers by Wang Ximeng (1096-1119), a genius painter from the Song Dynasty (960-1279), the drama is divided into seven acts, revealing the inner world of the genius painter from the perspective of a researcher from the Palace Museum who journeyed back in time to witness history in the making. Brilliantly combining ancient painting and dance, the drama weaves a connection between traditional heritage and the art of performance.

Pingtan is the premiere of the dance tour in Fujian province. Many came from neighboring cities like Fuzhou and Ningde to "soak" in the beauty of azurite blue and malachite green.

Mr. Zhang drove for an hour to the Pingtan International Performing Arts Center, said:” When I first saw the performance at the Spring Festival Gala on TV, I immediately took a liking to the show. The live performance totally blew me away!"

Ms. Yang, a resident can't help reminiscing about the visual feast even after the show ended. "The crew reciprocated the audience's enthusiasm with three curtain calls. We were reluctant to leave."

In the future, the Pingtan International Performing Arts Center is expected to work with artists in a diversified manner to bring in more excellent performances and help enhance the popularity and influence of Pingtan as a rising international tourism island.
