The integrated circuit (IC) industry of Pingtan is driven by talents, technology, and innovation. Related enterprises have sprung up from nothing. Pingtan is the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan and has been designated as a comprehensive zone for piloting cross-Straits integration.

“Our core product is a chip for decoration that we have developed independently. Sale for the product has been growing steadily every year.” Chen Mengbang from Taiwan shared with reporters that the star product had received orders worth 30 million yuan this year.

Chen is the pioneer of Pingtan’s IC industry. He came alone to start the business. Now, he has a staff of over 60. “Each of the chips we make carries an address, a revolutionary move. It’s expected to hit 120 million sales this year.

Under the influence of Chen, both professionals and enterprises in the industry continue to gather in Pingtan.

Xu Ruifeng, head of Gasia Technology (Pingtan) Co., Ltd. moved to Pingtan from Shenzhen.“The local government has rolled out a plethora of incentives for the development of the IC industry. We came empty-handed. We only focus on chip design and don’t need to worry about anything else.”

At present, there are 7 Taiwan-funded IC enterprises in Pingtan including Zongren Technology. These companies specialize in IC design, EDA software development, and chip testing, with over 100 patents and design copyrights. Among them, three have been recognized as national high-tech enterprises. Pingtan’s IC industry raked in 130 million yuan in 2021.

"In the past ten years, I am deeply impressed with the drastic changes in Pingtan. As a witness and participant, I feel honored." Chen added that the IC industry is an emerging industry and has great prospects for integrated development across the Taiwan Straits.

The report to the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) pointed out that more efforts will be made to promote economic and cultural exchanges and deepen integrated development in all fields across the Taiwan Straits and improve the well-being of Taiwan compatriots living and working on the mainland, which boosts Chen’s determination and confidence in making his enterprise grow.
