On November 9, reporter Wang Dongming from Chinanews.com visited the International Research Center for Austronesian Archaeology based in Pingtan, an island off E China’s Fujian province as well as the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan. Built on the premises of Keqiutou ruins, the center is jointly established by the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Fujian Museum, and Pingtan. It’s dedicated to studying the prehistoric culture in the southeast coast of China, including the origin and spread of the Austronesian family and the cultural relations between Fujian and Taiwan.
