Ms. Lin, a businesswoman from Taiwan, was filling in some registration details for her upcoming business on the afternoon of October 2 at the Service Center for Taiwan Compatriots and Businesses of Pingtan. “The staff guided me patiently. Everything went smoothly,” said Ms. Lin. It's reported that the business registration will take 1 to 3 working days after submission. Pingtan is the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan.

The center provides one-stop 169 administrative and public services in employment, life, properties, and entrepreneurship for Taiwan compatriots.

During the Covid, the center also launched an online service targeted at professional qualification. According to Xue Xueming, a staff member, the center has handled 46,800 matters. “Besides, we opened online consultation services on the phone and popular instant messaging app WeChat,” said Xue.

To enrich life after work, Pingtan also set up the Cross-Straits Exchange Center for Taiwan compatriots living in Pingtan where employment and entrepreneurial counseling and leisure and entertainment activities take place. 34 sessions of such activities like traditional festival celebrations and study camps have been held, which drew about 1026 participants from Taiwan.

Pingtan has been designated as the mainland’s first and only pilot zone for cross-Straits integration, aimed at building a “common homeland” for people from both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
