Pingtan hosts 11th common homeland forum

Themed “Good Life, Good Future,” the 11th Common Homeland Forum took place on December 8 in Pingtan, an island off E China’s Fujian province as well as the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan. Present at the forum are representatives from relevant political parties and industry associations from Taiwan, youth representatives and entrepreneurs from Taiwan, and those from the mainland.

Qiu Qingling, a keynote speaker who participated in the common home forum for the first time, said: "I have been in the mainland for 10 years. I have started a business and a family here. I shared these 10 years of experience with youth from Taiwan and let them better understand the beauty of the motherland." Qiu added: “My hometown is in Pingtung, Taiwan. Pingtung is like Pingtan by the sea. I feel at home in Pingtan.”

Activities such as the Fujian-Taiwan Youth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award Ceremony, Fujian-Taiwan E-commerce Dialogue, and the 6th Cross-Straits Village Chief Exchange were held on the sidelines of the event. Simultaneously, seminars on cross-Straits youth marine culture education and sailing sports promotion, the 3rd IM Cross-Straits Youth Film Festival, and Cross-Straits Business Forum were also held.

During the event, guests visited pilot villages for cross-Straits integration and explore the integration and development of cross-Straits grassroots governance.The Fujian-Taiwan E-commerce Dialogue focused on the introduction of Pingtan’s preferential policies of logistics trade and facilitated customs clearance and discuss the development trend of the e-commerce industry.

An official from the Taiwan Affairs Department of Pingtan said that the forum focused on promoting the employment and entrepreneurship of Taiwan youth and attracting them to take Pingtan as a springboard to land on the mainland, and enhancing grassroots exchanges across the Straits.

Serving as a platform for cross-Straits exchanges, the common homeland forum has been held for 10 years in Pingtan.
