Mainland driver's license made easy for Taiwan compatriots in Pingtan

Now, Taiwan compatriots can convert their Taiwan driving license on the mainland in Pingtan with ease. The process takes just a few hours and several procedures, from filling out application forms to retaking the exam and finally receiving the license. Pingtan is the closest place on the mainland to the island of Taiwan.

Guo Xiongshan from Taiwan finally gets to the day of obtaining his mainland driver's license to fulfill his road trip on the mainland. Guo and his band of brothers, 15 big bikers, have been anticipating biking on the mainland.

Guo Xiongshan said, "I've wanted to make road trips on the mainland for a long time, ever since I came across some amazing sceneries online.

“They are the first tour group from Taiwan since the Covid outbreak.” Zhou Dong, a staff of the Service Center for Taiwan Compatriots and Taiwan-funded Enterprises in Pingtan.

Pingtan is also the only special zone on the mainland for piloting cross-Straits integration and development. Zhou added that cross-Straits integration and development is what the people on both sides of the Taiwan Straits desire, and they will continue advocating the cause.

Now, Taiwan compatriots who hold a Taiwan driving license are exempted from driving tests. They can obtain a mainland driving license after retaking a physical examination and a written test. Exam takers can also choose to have the papers in simplified or traditional Chinese.

Guo said he plans to drive to Tibet for a vacation in June and looks forward to making more road trips on the mainland annually.
