Cross-Straits exchanges continue despite pandemic: Taiwan tour guides arrive in Pingtan
en.ptnet.cn | Updated:2023-04-13 | Lin Kongbo, StephaniePingtan-accredited Taiwan tour guides exhibit their professional qualifications.
Pingtan re-opens new tourism opportunities three years after Covid-19. On April 7, 12 Taiwan compatriots set foot on Pingtan Island after the full resumption of normal travel to start their careers as tour guides on the mainland.
The group was excited to return to Pingtan. Li Han, who worked here in 2019, said that cross-Straits exchanges are essential. As a tour guide, he could bring back his experiences and help the people in Taiwan gain a better understanding of the mainland.
More professional Taiwan accreditations are recognized on the mainland, granting greater access to career opportunities for Taiwan compatriots as part of a broader effort to promote cross-Straits exchanges. The group received their mainland tour agent license in just over an hour.
The guides will be reporting for work at Fujian Haitan International Travel Agency, a local travel agency in Pingtan. Pingtan has been experiencing a tourism rebound since the resumption of normal travel. Xue Bin, chairman of the travel agency, noted that the company would provide relevant training and supports to their new employees.
Despite a long winter brought about by the pandemic, cross-Straits exchanges have been thawed by the desire of people from across the Taiwan Straits to grow closer. With Pingtan's continuous efforts, cross-Straits exchanges and cooperation on the island have picked up again and made another step forward.
Local government service departments have seen a 45% increase in business volume this year and plan to implement more measures to support companies and individuals from Taiwan in Pingtan.
